Patrick O'Sullivan (born February 1, 1985 in Toronto , Ontario , Canada ) is an American ice hockey player who was most recently under contract with Helsingfors IFK from the SM-liiga .
Career
Patrick O'Sullivan, who was born on vacation of his parents in the Canadian metropolis of Toronto and grew up in Winston-Salem , North Carolina , began his career as a hockey player on the USA Hockey National Team Development Program for the he was active in the 2000/01 season in the North American Hockey League . He then played for the Mississauga IceDogs in the Ontario Hockey League for four years . During this time he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2003 in the second round as a total of 56th player from the Minnesota Wild , for which he however never played.
After the attacker a season long for their farm team , the Houston Eros of the American Hockey League , was on the ice, the Minnesota Wild gave the player on 24 June 2006 along with a first-round vote in exchange for the Slovakian attacker Pavol Demitra to the Los Angeles Kings from, for whom he played in the National Hockey League for the next three years . From the Kings O'Sullivan was transferred shortly before the trade deadline in the 2008/09 season, initially for Justin Williams to the Carolina Hurricanes , who sent him to the Edmonton Oilers on the same day in exchange for Erik Cole .
After he was signed on June 30, 2010 in exchange for Jim Vandermeer by the Phoenix Coyotes , these paid off his contract. In September 2010, O'Sullivan signed a one-year contract with the Carolina Hurricanes. Two months later he was placed on the waiver list by the Hurricanes and selected by the Minnesota Wild . There he was used for both the game in the NHL and their farm team , the Houston Eros from the AHL. In August 2011, the Phoenix Coyotes finally signed him again. From September to October 2012 the winger was active for the Finnish first division club Helsingfors IFK .
International
For the USA O'Sullivan took part in the U18 World Junior Championships in 2002 , as well as the U20 World Junior Championships in 2003 , 2004 and 2005 . He was also in the US squad for the 2006 , 2008 and 2009 World Championships .
