James Patrick "Jim" Vandermeer (* 21st February 1980 in Caroline , Alberta ) is a Canadian ice hockey player , who at the since 2015 Belfast Giants in the Elite Ice Hockey League on the position of the defense plays. Before that, he played nearly 500 games in the National Hockey League .
Career
Vandermeer, who was never drafted , started his career as a hockey player in 1997 with the Red Deer Rebels in the Western Hockey League . In his last season with the Rebels, in the 2000/01 season, he led his team as captain on ice and received the Doug Wickenheiser Memorial Trophy for his social commitment . In the summer of 2001, Vandermeer signed a contract with the Philadelphia Flyers as a free agent .
On February 19, 2004, the Vandermeer was given together with Colin Fraser and a second-round vote for the NHL Entry Draft 2004 in exchange for Alexei Schmamnow to the Chicago Blackhawks . On December 18, 2007, the defender for Ben Eager was returned to his former club, the Philadelphia Flyers . On February 20, 2008, the Canadian was transferred to the Calgary Flames . As compensation, the Flyers were given the right to select the third player in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft .
After a year and a half in Calgary, his club gave Vandermeer to the Phoenix Coyotes on June 27, 2009 in exchange for Brandon Prust . In Phoenix Vandermeer was set as a regular player in the 2009/10 season , but on June 30, 2010 he was transferred to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Patrick O'Sullivan .
On July 1, 2011, Vandermeer signed a one-year contract with the San Jose Sharks . He then played a year with the Chicago Wolves in the AHL. He moved to the 2013/14 season Kloten Flyers in the National League A . After two years in Switzerland, he joined the Belfast Giants from the British Elite Ice Hockey League and was elected to the EIHL All-Star First Team in 2017.
