Brandon Raymond James Prust (born March 16, 1984 in London , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player and current coach , who played 539 games for the Calgary Flames , Phoenix Coyotes and New York Rangers between 2002 and 2017 , Canadiens de Montréal and Vancouver Canucks in the National Hockey League on the position of left winger .
Career
Brandon Prust began his career as a hockey player in his hometown with the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League , for which he played for a total of three years from 2002 to 2005. In his final season with the Knights, he won both the J. Ross Robertson Cup and the Memorial Cup with his team . The winger was selected by the Calgary Flames as the 70th player in the third round during the 2004 NHL Entry Draft .
In his first two years in Calgary, Prust played mainly for their then farm team from the American Hockey League , the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights . The Canadian made his debut in the National Hockey League on November 1, 2006 in a game against the Detroit Red Wings . In total, he played ten times in the NHL in his premier season. During the 2007/08 season , the attacker was not appointed to Calgary's NHL team and so he played exclusively for the new Calgary farm team, the Quad City Flames , for which he completed 79 games. From the summer of 2008 Prust was back in the NHL squad of the Calgary Flames, before he was given on March 4, 2009 to the Phoenix Coyotes . In exchange for Jim Vandermeer , the winger was brought back from the Flames on June 27, 2009.
In February 2010 he moved to the New York Rangers in exchange for two players together with Olli Jokinen . In three seasons he played 190 games with the Rangers and scored 55 points, while he spent 381 minutes in the penalty box. On July 1, 2012 Prust was hired as a free agent by the Canadiens de Montréal , with whom he signed a four-year contract.
In July 2015, Prust and a five-round vote for the 2016 NHL Entry Draft were given to the Vancouver Canucks , which in turn transferred Zack Kassian to Montréal. After his contract in Vancouver had expired, the Nürnberg Ice Tigers announced at the end of November 2016 that they had signed the Canadian until the end of the season. In August 2017, he received a trial contract with the Los Angeles Kings from the NHL, but this did not result in a permanent engagement, so he declared his active career at the end of November 2017. He then moved to the coaching staff of his former junior club London Knights from the OHL.
