Alexei Jurjewitsch Schamnow ( Russian Алексей Юрьевич Жамнов ; born October 1, 1970 in Moscow , Russian SFSR ) was a Russian ice hockey player (center). Since June 2015 he has been General Manager of HK Spartak Moscow from the Continental Hockey League .
Career
As a player of HK Dynamo Moscow , he was drawn in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft by the Winnipeg Jets in the fourth round in 77th place. Only after the Olympic Games in 1992 did he move overseas and caused a stir in a series of storms with Teemu Selänne and Keith Tkachuk .
The team moved to Phoenix for the 1996/97 season , but Alexei's path went to the Chicago Blackhawks . He had been given there in exchange for Jeremy Roenick . Here, too, he was able to convince and became captain of the Hawks in 2002 .
During the 2003/04 season , the Philadelphia Flyers signed him , but after the end of the season there was a strike in the NHL. During the strike he played for Vityas Chekhov in the Russian Super League . At the same time, his contract with the Flyers expired and the Boston Bruins took Schamnow as a free agent under contract. After the 2005/06 season he ended his career and became general manager of Vityas Chekhov.
In January 2010 he announced his comeback at Vityas Chekhov , but did not play a game for the club. In December 2012 he left Vitjas. Before the 2013/14 season, he became General Magaer at Atlant Moskovskaya Oblast , and from October 2013 he was the club's assistant coach. Due to financial problems, Atlant withdrew from the game operations after the 2014/15 season and Schamnow became General Manager of HK Spartak Moscow , which took over Atlants starting place. Since October 2018, Schamnow has also been the team's head coach.
