The 2004/05 season was the ninth season of the Superliga . The championship title was secured for the second time by HK Dynamo Moscow .
Main round
mode
The 16 teams of the Superliga initially played against each other in a common main round, with each team playing 60 season games. The eight best-placed teams then qualified for the play-offs, in which the champions were played, while the other eight teams had ended their playing time. Each team received three points for a win after regular time, two points for a win in overtime, and one point for a draw after overtime as well as a loss after overtime. No points were awarded for a defeat after normal time.

NHL season lockout
Due to the complete failure of the 2004/05 season of the North American National Hockey League because of the lockout , the teams of the Superliga could not be denied to take some players from the NHL under contract. In total over 50 players from overseas found their way to Russia during the season. Ak Bars Kazan had the largest contingent with 13 players, Neftechimik Nizhnekamsk was the only team not to sign a single player.
