Former school building in Hainstrasse (now town hall)

The Lahntalschule is a high school in Biedenkopf in Central Hesse .

The Lahntalschule emerged from the Biedenkopf secondary school , which was founded in 1846. The former school building in Hainstrasse now houses the town hall of Biedenkopf. The Lahntal School is located in a school complex built in the 1980s near the Lahn on the western outskirts of the city. In the 2019/20 school year, around 950 pupils will attend the Lahntal School.

history

After repeated complaints in the 1840s in Biedenkopf that the commercial status was declining and that the education of many people was inadequate, in 1843 the Hessian Minister of the Interior approved the building of a "Grand Ducal Realschule" in Biedenkopf. The new school building was inaugurated on March 23, 1846. In the spirit of pedagogy of the post-Napoleonic era, the school bore traits of reformist thinking. Real school students and city school students were taught together. This was followed by the affiliation of a so-called Selekta - a higher school for girls. The school was renamed in the German Empire from the "Full Royal Higher Citizens School" to the "Royal Realprogymnasium". In 1927, the school was recognized by the Minister for Science, Culture and Public Education as a reform high school . In 1945 the school building was used as a hospital. After the Second World War, the “Realgymnasium zu Biedenkopf” was reopened with the approval of the US occupation authorities and renamed the Lahntalschule in the 1950s . In 1979 an architectural competition was announced for a new school building, which the Wiesbaden architects Stillger won. The first construction phase began in 1980 and the fourth construction phase was completed in 1996.

Sports funding

The Lahntalschule is one of nine schools that take part in the football in school project, which emerged from a collaboration between the DFB , the Hessian Ministry of Culture and the Hessian Football Association . The sports talent promotion scheme has existed since 1997 with the football center, which also supports football talents from other regional schools. Another focus of sports promotion is volleyball. The Biedenkopf volleyball center has existed since 2000 in cooperation with TV Biedenkopf.

In the Lahntalhalle belonging to the school, an area is separated, in which the Artistic Gymnastics Association Obere Lahn eV has permanently installed sports equipment for artistic gymnastics for their training . The hall also serves to host the league operations of the 1st Artistic Gymnastics Bundesliga .

School Biology Center

The "School Biology Center of the Marburg Biedenkopf District" was set up on March 31, 1987 on the premises of the Lahntal School in Biedenkopf and has been developed since then. The sponsor is the Marburg-Biedenkopf district . The goals of the center are:

  • Environmental encounters for schoolchildren,
  • Advice and training for teachers,
  • Advising citizens,
  • Provision of materials and teaching aids

Oddities

In the novel Grenzgang of Stephan Thome is located, in the fictional town of "mountain city" (Biedenkopf which is meant), is one of the protagonists teacher at the local high school. Some characters associated with the school (e.g. the school director) have clear traits of real people who worked at the Lahntalschule.
