Tilman Krause described Thome as a “great master of emotional nuances”. Sandra Kegel was impressed by the realistic portrayal of the novel with a pessimistic tone: "[...] it is amazing how precisely he [Thome] not only captures the Upper Hessian landscape and the uniqueness of its people, but also the special idiom of the North Hesse flows in, ”said Kegel. The film rights to the novel were acquired by WDR , on whose behalf the TV production company Teamworx filmed the novel with Claudia Michelsen and Lars Eidinger in the leading roles; mainly shot at the location in Biedenkopf.
