Günter Bäumner

Günter Bäumner (born February 18, 1926 in Biedenkopf ; † September 12, 2002 ) was a German homeland researcher in the Hessian hinterland .

Life

Günter Bäumner was born as the son of Wilhelm Bäumner (1891–1972) and his wife Lina (née Wagner, 1896–1976) and grew up in Biedenkopf.

Bäumner was in the war from 1944 to 1945. In 1947 he passed his Abitur. From 1948 to 1951 he attended the Pedagogical Institute in Weilburg for training as a teacher. Afterwards he was from 1951 to 1991 a. a. works as a teacher at the city school (secondary school) in Biedenkopf.

In 1957 he married Waltraud Riedesel and had three children with her.

Act

Bäumner was active for many years in the Hinterland History Association, a branch of the Association for Hessian History and Regional Studies (VHG) e. V. Kassel . In 1951 he joined the Hinterland History Society ; In 1954 he took up the office of secretary there, which he held for over 30 years.

In the club he was editor of the Hinterland history sheets. Messages from history and local history. Journal of the Hinterland History Association .

Together with the chairman Dr. Elsa Blöcher made a decisive contribution to Bäumner's rebuilding of the club after the war .

In 1985 he was elected 1st chairman to succeed Elsa Blöcher. During his tenure as chairman of the Hinterland History Association , he expanded the organization's publication organs: He was editor of the more historical book series Contributions to the History of the Hinterland and the popular scientific book series Hinterländer Lesestube .

Bäumner was a city councilor, member of the local advisory board and mayor in Biedenkopf.

In 1990 he suggested the establishment of the Hinterland Library in the town hall of Biedenkopf in order to make the historical literature of the Hinterland History Association accessible to the interested public.

In January 2002 Bäumner resigned the chairmanship of the Hinterland History Association . He was then named honorary chairman of the association.

In the Association for Hessian History and Regional Studies (VHG) e. V. Kassel , Bäumner was most recently a member of the advisory board of the main board, the advisory body for the award of grants. In view of Bäumner's services to the VHG, he was elected an honorary member in March 2002.

The main concern of Bäumner was to spread local and regional history as comprehensively and as diverse as possible. We owe him over 200 essays that he u. a. published in the Hinterland history sheets , in Heimat an Lahn and Dill , the Biedenköpfer Bote , the parish letter of the Protestant parish Biedenkopf, in the Hinterländer Anzeiger and in the Oberhessische Presse . In doing so, he always proved to be both a technically profound expert and competent in addressing his topics in a popular way.

Already in 1956 Bäumner published a book representation of the border crossing in Biedenkopf , which was reissued in 1986 in an expanded and updated form. To this day, this is the most scientifically sound and comprehensive representation of the local festival that is central to Biedenkopf. In 1997, Günter Bäumner was elected honorary member of the Biedenkopf Border Crossing Association for his services to historical research into the border crossing.
