The catchment area is primarily the old district of Biedenkopf , the so-called hinterland . The sold circulation is 8,632 copies, a decrease of 33.4 percent since 1998.

The Hinterländer Geschichtsblätter (96th year - as of 2017), the journal of the Hinterländer Geschichtsverein eV , have been appearing as a supplement since 1907 .

history

The forerunner for the Hinterländer Anzeiger was the advertising paper for the Biedenkopf district and the Vöhl district , which the Biedenkopfer book printer and publisher Justus Tobias Heinzerling published weekly for the first time in autumn 1837 . From 1845 the paper appeared twice a week.

In 1848 Heinzerling turned the advertising paper into the hinterland messenger with a democratic orientation. The newspaper , together with the Wetterauer Volksblatt and the Wächter an der Schwalm from Alsfeld, was considered a "drummer of the new time". In 1849, under pressure from the Interior Ministry in Darmstadt, Heinzerling had to give up the newspaper and again publish an advertising paper without political reports or expressions of opinion.

With the issue of January 1, 1877, Heinzerlings Zeitung received the name Hinterländer Anzeiger . After his death on October 8, 1877, his widow Margarethe Heinzerling took over the business under the Heinzerlingsche Buchdruckerei company, which was run by their sons Friedrich and Karl. They expanded the print shop and newspaper and in 1887 they were published three times a week.

It was not until April 1, 1932 that the Hinterländer Anzeiger switched to a daily publication from Monday to Saturday. The newspaper appeared daily until the American troops marched in in March 1945. Initially, the Allied military authorities forbade publication in order to soon give, for a short time, permission to print official notices under the head of the Hinterländer Anzeiger .

As early as December 1, 1945, according to an order from the military government, all German newspapers had to discard their titles and wait for a new license . The Heinzerlingsche Buchdruckerei published the official news until 1948 , followed by the Hinterland advertising paper .

At the end of July 1949, the military government lifted the compulsory license and the Hinterländer Anzeiger was published again, initially printed in the Biedenkopfer print shop, then supplied by a publishing house in Giessen. On December 1, 1950, a long-term lease agreement was finally concluded with the Wetzlar publishing house , which had already published its own sheet for Biedenkopf from 1948 onwards.
