Jürgen Runzheimer (born February 20, 1924 in Eschwege , † February 3, 2012 in Gladenbach ) was a German historian , local researcher , author and teacher in the Marburg-Biedenkopf district .

Life

Jürgen Runzheimer was born in Eschwege and grew up in Treffurt / Thuringia. After graduating from high school in 1942, he served in the war in Italy and Russia and was released home after a brief imprisonment in 1945.

From 1948 to 1951 he studied at the Pedagogical Institute in Weilburg with a focus on history and sociology. Until 1959 he was a teacher in Frechenhausen and Lixfeld , then worked as an assistant teaching history at the Pedagogical Institute in Weilburg and later at the University of Gießen . In 1960 he married Barbara Schmidt. The marriage produced three daughters. In 1964 he was appointed rector of the Freiherr-vom-Stein-Schule Gladenbach. From 1974 until his retirement in 1986 he was director and deputy headmaster of the comprehensive school.

Since studying, several publications on contemporary history have appeared, e. B. own research on site about the fictitious attack on the station Gleiwitz , later also related to regional and local history. It was a particular concern of Runzheimer to bring the families of the surviving Jews from Gladenbach and the old district of Biedenkopf closer to their former home and to find contacts with their relatives scattered around the world. This research was also published.

Honorary positions

From 1983 to 1999 the later honorary member was deputy chairman of the Gladenbacher Heimat- und Museumsverein " Amt Blankenstein ". He gave lectures and guided tours of the local history, was responsible for editing the journal of the Heimatverein and in 1982 led the restoration of the Blankenstein castle ruins together with the city of Gladenbach . In 1979 the historian was one of 21 founding members of the history and homeland association Rüchenbach and from 1980 to 1990 he was a member of the board. Runzheimer was also a founding member when the “Art and Culture Group Palette” was created. He worked there on the board for ten years. In addition, Runzheimer was a member of the Hinterland History Association and author of essays in the association's journal Hinterland History Papers . In 1987 he was the initiator and author of the book Gladenbach und Schloss Blankenstein and published local chronicles in the following years. In the 1990s he joined the Eisenach History Society . To mark the 900th anniversary of his hometown Treffurt an der Werra, he published the book Treffurt und Burg Normannstein in 2004 .
