Olympic history of Sudan

Sudan , whose NOK , the Sudan Olympic Committee , was founded in 1956 andrecognizedby the IOC in1959, has been participating in the Summer Olympic Games since 1960. No athletes were sent to the 1964 Summer Games. Sudan took part in the boycott of African countries in 1976 and joined the boycott of Western countries in 1980. So far, no athlete in the country has participated in the winter games.
Overview
Ten Sudanese started in Rome in 1960 in the sports of athletics, boxing, shooting and weightlifting. The light welterweight boxers Mohamed Rizgalla and Mohamed Faragalla welterweight were the first Olympians in Sudan on August 25, 1960. At the Games in Tokyo, in 1964 the Sudan did not participate.
In Mexico City in 1968 five Sudanese went to the start, but were unsuccessful in their disciplines. In Munich 1972 , a Sudanese soccer team took part in the Olympic tournament for the first time. The country followed calls for boycotts from African countries and the USA and stayed away from the games in Montreal in 1976 and Moscow in 1980 .
In Los Angeles 1984 there were the first Sudanese finals in athletics. Omer Khalifa finished eighth over 1500 meters, Ahmed Musa Jouda tenth over 10,000 meters. Khalifa also reached the 1,500 meter final in Seoul in 1988 . He finished 12th in 1992 in Barcelona for the first time Sudanese judoka took part, in 1996 in Atlanta a table tennis player.
A Sudanese swimmer made his debut in Sydney in 2000 . With Awmima Mohamed in the 400-meter run, a Sudanese woman took part in the Olympic Games for the first time. A pure athlete team traveled to the Athens 2004 games . Ismail Ahmed Ismail reached the 800 meter final and finished eighth. Yamilé Aldama , who took part in Sydney for her home country Cuba , had acquired Sudanese citizenship in 2004 and has now started for Sudan. In the triple jump she reached the final and was fifth. The sportswoman, who was married to a British and also competed for Sudan in Beijing in 2008 , changed her citizenship again in 2010 and became British.
In Beijing, Ismail Ahmed Ismail won the first medal for Sudan in the 800-meter run with silver. The 800-meter run in London in 2012 saw Abubaker Kaki Khamis once again a Sudanese finalist. Khamis came in 7th. In Rio de Janeiro 2016 no Sudanese could stand out.
