The British Virgin Islands , whose NOK , the Virgin Islands Olympic Committee , was founded in 1967, have been participating in the Summer Olympics since 1984. In 1984 they took part in the Winter Games for the first time, the second participation only took place in 2014. Youngsters from the British Virgin Islands also took part in the Youth Summer Games. The athletes from the British Caribbean Islands have not yet won any medals.

Overview

The first participation of athletes from the British Virgin Islands took place at the 1984 Winter Games in Sarajevo. The first Olympic athlete was the speed skater Erroll Fraser on February 10, 1984. In Los Angeles in the same year, athletes and sailors took part in the Summer Olympics for the first time. The first Summer Olympians on July 31, 1984 were the sailors Keith and Peter Barker in the 470 class and Elvet Meyers, Keith Thomas and Robin Tattersall in the Soling class.

In 2004 in Athens, sprinter Dion Crabbe was the first woman from the British Virgin Islands to take part in the Olympic Games. In 2014 in Sochi the second participation in the winter games took place, this time by a freestyle skier. In Rio de Janeiro 2016, a swimmer from the islands took part for the first time.

Youngsters from the British Virgin Islands have taken part in both of the Summer Youth Games that have been held so far. In 2010 in Singapore , the team consisted of three athletes, a boy and two girls. The sprinter Darnetia Robinson was successful and finished seventh over 100 meters. Once again in 2014 in Nanjing , a sprinter was the most successful of eight participants in the 100-meter run, three boys and five girls. Nelda Huggins came in 6th. A swimmer and a sailor were also represented in Nanjing.
