Subsequently, Fijian Olympic starters took on swimming, cycling and judo (since 1984), weightlifting (since 1996), archery and shooting (since 2004), and table tennis, soccer and rugby sevens (since 2016).
The first Olympians in Fiji were on November 24, 1956 the boxers Thomas Schuster in the light welterweight and Hector Hatch in the welterweight. The first woman in Fiji at the Olympic Games was the long jumper Miriama Tuisorisori on July 23, 1976, who also took part in the pentathlon .

The team lost u. a. 0:10 against the German Olympic team. They were 1-0 up against Mexico until the break, but lost the game 5-1 at the end. In rugby, however, Fiji was able to win the first medal at the Olympic Games, which also meant the island nation's first Olympic victory. In the final against the United Kingdom they won 43: 7.
