The Olympic history of Czechoslovakia began during the VII Olympiad at the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp ( Belgium ), where Czechoslovakia won two bronze medals. Czechoslovak athletes previously competed under the flag of Bohemia . The National Olympic Committee was the Československý Olympijský Výbor .

Czechoslovakia took part in 32 Olympic Games, which were held in 20 different countries - from 1920 to 1992 in every event with the exception of 1984 ( boycott of the Summer Olympics ). 2093 Czechoslovak athletes (1726 men and 367 women) competed in 332 competitions in 40 sports.

The youngest athlete was Ondrej Nepela (13 years, Olympic Winter Games 1964 ), the oldest František Sembera (56 years, Olympic Winter Games 1960 ). The most successful female athlete was Věra Čáslavská with eleven won medals.

Events

Neither Czechoslovakia nor the successor states Slovakia and the Czech Republic have hosted the Olympic Games to date.

Czechoslovakia won the most medals at the 1964 and 1980 Summer Olympics with 14 and at the 1984 Winter Olympics with six. At the Summer Olympics in 1952 , Czechoslovakia reached sixth place and at the 1928 Winter Olympics, eighth place among the participating nations.

In terms of the number of medals, Czechoslovakia ranks 26th at the Summer Olympics and 23rd at the Winter Olympics.
