Cambodia , whose NOK , the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia , was founded in 1984 andrecognizedby the IOC in1994, has been participating in the Summer Olympics since 1964. As early as 1956, two riders were sent to the Stockholm Equestrian Games. Another participation of Cambodian athletes took place in 1972 under the name Khmer Republic . Cambodia stayed away from the Olympic Games for the next 24 years, and has only been a permanent participant in Summer Games since 1996. So far, no athletes from Cambodia have participated in the Winter Games. Young athletes took part in both of the youth summer games that have been held so far.
Overview
Summer games
Cambodia's first Olympic team took part in the Stockholm Equestrian Games in 1956 and consisted of two show jumpers. Isoup Ganthy and Saing Pen were Cambodia's first Olympians on June 17, 1956. In the following participations, Cambodian athletes competed in boxing, cycling and sailing (since 1964), athletics and swimming (since 1972), wrestling (since 1996) and in judo and taekwondo (since 2012). The first woman in Cambodia to compete in the Olympic Games on September 1, 1972 was the athlete Meas Kheng.
Youth games
Three young athletes, two boys and one girl, competed in judo, swimming and athletics at the first edition of the 2010 Summer Youth Olympic Games in Singapore . The judoka Sothea Sam won the bronze medal in the flyweight division.
In 2014 in Nanjing , three athletes, a boy and two girls, took part again. They competed in athletics, swimming and wrestling. Medals could not be won.
