Hem bunting
Hem Bunting (born December 12, 1985 in Stung Treng Province ) is a Cambodian middle and long distance runner .
As a participant in the 2004 World Half Marathon Championships , he came 79th out of 84 runners and set a national record with 1:19:40 h. At the Asian Championships in 2005, he finished 20th in the 1500 meter run in 4: 03.87 minutes.
In 2006 he improved his half marathon record to 1:14:06 h. At the 2007 Southeast Asian Games in Nakhon Ratchasima , he won bronze in the 5000 meter run and silver in the marathon , each with national records (14: 24.71 min and 2:26:28 h).
In the 2008 Olympics , Hem was one of three Cambodian participants . He started the marathon and finished in 2:33:32 h as 73rd out of 76 athletes.
Bunting Hem is one of nine children in a farming family. After his athletic talent was discovered, officials took him to the capital, Phnom Penh , where he lives with the other elite athletes in the country in a dormitory in the dilapidated stadium. His monthly income is the equivalent of $ 50, half of what a pair of running shoes costs.
