history

The company was founded in 1984 as Sæplast in Dalvík in northern Iceland. The first products were double-walled plastic containers for the storage of freshly caught fish, later buoys for fishing nets were added. The company gained its first experience with rotational molding .

First produced for the Icelandic fishing fleet, it soon became a success in export. In 1993 Sæplast received an export award given by the President. In the same year the company was listed on the Icelandic exchange ICEX .

In 1999–2003, several foreign competitors were taken over and production facilities were set up, for example in Canada, Hong Kong, Spain, Norway and the Netherlands.

The Atorka Group took over Sæplast in 2004 and took the company off the stock exchange. Promens was founded as a holding company in May 2005. While some business areas were directly subordinated to Promens, others remained with Sæplast. In 2005, Bonar Plastics was taken over by Low and Bonar Plc , which incorporated twelve additional plants in Europe and North America into Promens.
