The Maldives , whose National Olympic Committee (NOK), the Maldives Olympic Committee , was founded in 1985, has been participating in the Summer Olympic Games since 1988. So far, no athletes have been sent to the Winter Games. Young athletes took part in both of the youth summer games that have been held so far.

Overview

Summer games

The first Olympic team in the Maldives entered in 1988 and consisted of seven athletes. At the following summer games, athletes from the island state competed in swimming (from 1992) and badminton (from 2012).

The first Olympian was sprinter Ismail Asif Waheed on September 23, 1988. On July 31, 1992, sprinter Aminath Rishtha was the first woman in the Maldives to take part in the Olympic Games.

Youth games

At the first Youth Summer Games in Singapore in 2010 , four teenagers, two boys and two girls, competed in athletics, swimming and badminton. Badminton player Aishath Rasheed met German Fabienne Deprez in her preliminary group and lost in two sets.

In 2014 in Nanjing , three teenagers, two boys and one girl, took part in athletics and swimming.
