Olympic history of Bosnia and Herzegovina

The NOK Bosnia and Herzegovina , the Olimpijski Komitet Bosne i Hercegovine , was founded in 1992 and recognized by the IOC in 1993 . The country has participated in the Summer Olympics since 1992 and the Winter Olympics since 1994. Medals have not yet been won.
Before Bosnia and Herzegovina became independent, the country's athletes took part in the Yugoslav team in the Olympic Games. Young athletes took part in all of the Youth Olympic Games (summer and winter) that have been held for a long time.
General overview
Summer games
The country's first Olympic team started in Barcelona in 1992. The ten athletes competed in track and field, swimming, weight lifting, judo, shooting and canoeing. On July 26, 1992, the marksman Miriana Jovović became the first female Olympic athlete. The first male participant a day later was the swimmer Janko Goiković.
In the following summer games, Bosnian athletes took part in table tennis and wrestling (from 1996) as well as taekwondo and tennis (from 2004).
At the Olympic tournament in Sydney 2000, the shooter Nedžad Fazlija reached the final with the air pistol and finished sixth.
Winter games
In 1994, Bosnia and Herzegovina first took part in the Winter Games. Alpine skiers, cross-country skiers, bobsledders and tobogganers all started in Lillehammer. The first winter Olympian was toboggan runner Nedžad Lomigora on February 13, 1994. Two days later, the toboggan runner Verona Marianović was the first woman in the country to take part in the winter games. In 2006 a Bosnian biathlete took part for the first time.
Youth games
With five young people, three boys and two girls, Bosnia and Herzegovina took part in the 2010 Summer Youth Games in Singapore . The athletes competed in athletics, swimming, judo and tennis. The tennis player Damir Džumhur won bronze in the boys singles. Another bronze medal, which was not taken into account in the country's medal balance, was won by the judoka Eldin Omerović. The light heavyweight won this medal as a member of the Cairo mixed team .
In 2014 in Nanjing , six teenagers, three boys and three girls, took part. They competed in athletics, swimming, judo and taekwondo. The judoka Aleksandra Samardžić won silver in the heavyweight division.
In the Winter Youth Games in 2012 in Innsbruck were four teenagers, three boys and a girl there. They participated in alpine ski racing, cross-country skiing and tobogganing. In 2016 in Lillehammer , five young people, two boys and three girls, competed in alpine skiing, cross-country skiing and biathlon.
