Career

Aleksandra Vasiljević, a student from Pale , competes for Romanija and is trained by Tomislav Lopatić . She has been practicing biathlon since 1998 and has been a member of the Bosnia-Herzegovina national team since 2002. The athlete, who is only 1.65 m tall and weighs 55 kilograms, made her international debut at the 2002 Junior World Championships in Ridnaun . There she took places between 40 and 50 in individual, sprint and pursuit. Since the 2002/03 season she has also competed in the Junior European Cup, where rank 18 in the sprint and pursuit of Obertilliach were the best results. The second participation in a Junior World Championships 2003 in Kościelisko brought respectable results with places 30 and 15 in the pursuit. At the European Championships, the results were also around 30th place. Vasiljević achieved roughly the same performance at the 2004 Junior World Championships in Haute Maurienne . The fourth Junior World Championship she ran in 2005 in Kontiolahti , but without again reaching the good results of the two previous years. Vasiljević ran her last Junior World Championship in 2007 in Martell , where she finished 30th in the individual as the best result.

Vasiljević has been competing in the European Biathlon Cup since the 2003/04 season , and results around 30th place in the first season were normal. The Biathlon World Cup debut followed at the beginning of the 2004/05 season . She contested her first race in Beitostølen and was 104th of a sprint. The highlight of the first senior season was the participation in the biathlon world championships 2005 in Hochfilzen . There she took 86th place in both the individual and the sprint. In the World Cup, results around ranks 80 and 90 were normal, seldom got worse, sometimes better. Culminating in Vasiljevićs career is not yet participating in the 2006 Olympic Winter Games of Turin . It was a special honor for the athlete that she was chosen to be the flag bearer at the opening ceremony of her nation. In the competitions she reached the 78th place in the sprint and was 74th in the individual. Shortly after the games she ran Bosniakin in Kontiolahti as 68 on the best place in the World Cup so far. The best result at the 2006 European Biathlon Championships in Langdorf was 42nd place in the individual. Vasiljević also achieved good placements at the 2006 Summer Biathlon World Championships in Ufa , where he was tenth in the roller-ski sprint and 22nd in the cross-country sprint. The Biathlon World Championships 2007 in Antholz brought typical results for the biathlete with 78th place in the individual and 82nd in the sprint. Things went better at the Biathlon European Championships 2007 in Bansko with an 18th place in the individual. The Biathlon World Championships 2008 from Ostersund ended with ranks in the 80s range. Vasiljević was 83rd in the individual and 81st in the sprint race. The 2008 European Biathlon Championships in Nové Město na Moravě were less positive, Vasiljević was only 52nd in the individual and 53rd in the pursuit and thus placed quite far behind.
