The German relay was traded as the favorite before the race before the Russians. The Germans started as defending champions and unbeaten for more than twelve months with the same line-up as last year’s victory. In the first lap the Italians were able to keep up with the Germans, but they fell behind after the second change and the race was already decided between the first and the second change. While the firing pin of the rifle broke with the Russian Achatova and her squadron was now 2:16 minutes behind the front of the field, the German starters gained almost one minute ahead of the field with 20 hits in the first four stages until the second change following Ukrainian women. Even the mixed shooting results of the last two German runners Neuner (6 mistakes and one penalty loop) and Wilhelm (four mistakes, without a penalty loop) could no longer jeopardize the victory of the Germans, as the following Ukrainians were very safe in the shooting range and so the gap in the meantime could reduce to 15 seconds, but were inferior to them in long-distance runners. The other squadrons, however, fell further and further back due to poor shooting performance, so that the Russians with the strong final runner Jurjewa were able to overtake the Belarusians who had been in third place after the last standing stage; the Russian final runner was intercepted and overtaken by the French Bailly on the last kilometer .
