Oxana Chwostenko ( Ukrainian Оксана Хвостенко , scientific transliteration Oksana Chvostenko ; born November 27, 1977 in Chernihiv ) is a former Ukrainian biathlete .

Oxana Chwostenko has been practicing biathlon since 1993 . The student, who is married to the biathlete Vyacheslav Derkach , has a son. She is looked after by the Ukrainian national coach Mykola Soz . She made her debut in the biathlon world cup in 1996 in a sprint in Östersund (80th place). She celebrated her first outstanding placement in 1999 with a second place with the Ukrainian relay in Lake Placid . In the 2002/03 season she came for the first time in an individual competition (10th in the pursuit) in Khanty-Mansiysk in the top ten. She reached her podium in 2006 in Hochfilzen with a third place in the individual. She celebrated her first World Cup victory on January 21, 2007 in the Slovenian town of Pokljuka in the mass start race.

In 2002 Chwostenko was used at the Olympic Games in singles (29th), in 2006 in singles (20th), in sprint (49th), in pursuit (lapped) and in relay (11th). Oxana Chwostenko took part in the 2010 Winter Olympics. Her best result was 8th place in the individual. With the relay she finished 6th. She took part in world championships in 1999, 2003 and 2005. In 2003 she won silver with the Ukrainian relay. Although she did not win a medal in Hochfilzen in 2005, she was among the top 15 in all competitions. At the World Championships in Östersund (2008) she won the bronze medal in the sprint and individual races and the silver medal in the relay.

In the run-up to the World Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk , Chwostenko announced that she would end her career after the relay competition. Out of respect for her achievements, she was used as the final runner despite a mixed season. In the competition she made no mistakes and went into the final lap as the leader. Shortly before the finish, she was set by Magdalena Neuner , but still won the silver medal in her last race for the Ukraine. It later emerged that Khvostenko with ephedrine doping was and she was detained for one year. The medal was retroactively withdrawn from the Ukrainian relay team.
