The Pokljuka ( ˌpɔˑˈkʎ̯ʊˑkɑˑ ) is an alpine plateau in northwestern Slovenia . It is located in the Triglav National Park in the Julian Alps at about 1300 m.

geography

The landscape is characterized by dense fir forests . The high plateau ends in a mountain range that includes some over 2000 m high mountains ( Debela peč , Viševnik and Triglav ).

The next larger town is Bled, east of the region .

Events

The Pokljuka is best known for the biathlon races held here . The biathlon stadium on Pokljuka is about 20 kilometers from Bled. Since the 1992/93 season there have been regular races as part of the Biathlon World Cup .

Pokljuka was also the venue for the 2001 biathlon world championships and will again host the 2021 biathlon world championships .
