The 4th Junior Eurovision Song Contest took place on December 2nd, 2006. The event was hosted by Romanian Public Service Television ( TVR ) and broadcast from 8:15 p.m. Central European Time. The winners of the competition were the Tolmacheva Sisters for Russia with the song Vesenniy Jazz , who also took part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 for Russia.

The show was broadcast live in the participating countries as well as in Andorra and Bosnia-Herzegovina , and the Australian broadcaster SBS acquired the broadcasting rights.

Bucharest

The venue Bucharest is the capital as well as the industrial and commercial center of Romania. Over two million people live in “little Paris”, as the city is often called. The organizer TVR is also based here.

Countries no longer participating

  • Participant in 2006
  • Countries that have participated in the past but not in 2006
  • The Scandinavian countries - Denmark , Norway and Sweden - withdrew from the competition and instead, as in 2002, held a purely Scandinavian competition, the Melodi Grand Prix Nordic , in Stockholm. However, Sweden also took part in the JESC via the private broadcaster TV4 - so far the public broadcaster SVT has broadcast the EBU event.

Britain has also withdrawn. ITV has broadcast the event since the first JESC in 2003 because the BBC rejected the EBU's offer. After the competition was still broadcast on ITV1 in 2003, it was relocated to ITV2 in the following years due to low audience figures - it was canceled in 2006. Latvia also withdrew - mainly for financial reasons - but returned again in 2010 and 2011.

Serbia and Montenegro took part in 2005 , but since then Montenegro has declared itself independent and the state of Serbia and Montenegro no longer exists. The EBU granted the Montenegrin television broadcaster RTCG additional time to think it over, but ultimately refused the invitation for several years. Only in 2014 will Montenegro make its debut as an independent state at the JESC.
