Netherlands at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest
This article deals with the history of the Netherlands as a participant in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest .
Preliminary decisions
Since 2003, a preliminary decision has been held every year under the name Junior Song Festival . Except for 2003 and 2006 there were always two preliminary rounds. The overall result is made up of assessments by an adult and a children's jury as well as a spectator voting by phone and SMS. In 2015 the semifinals will take place on September 19 and 26 and the finals of the Junior Song Festival on October 3. Two out of four entries per semifinals qualify directly for the final, and another song that was previously eliminated receives a wildcard.
In 2016, for the first time, there was no preliminary decision broadcast on TV at all, only a casting in which the three participants were selected by a jury. A formation specifically for the JESC is to be formed again in 2017.
Participation in the competition
In 2003 they took part for the first time and every year since then. Along with Belarus , the Netherlands is one of only two nations that have participated in every edition of JESC. The highlight was the victory in 2009, in 2011 they took second place. The competition was held twice in the Netherlands: 2007 in Rotterdam and 2012 in Amsterdam . The Netherlands, on the other hand, finished third to bottom twice, in 2008 and 2015.
