life and career

Sweetser was born in 1988 in the third largest city in the state of Arkansas, Fayetteville, as the daughter of William and Kelly Sweetser. Growing up in Fayetteville, she began dancing at the age of three and continued to dance through college. After graduating from Fayetteville High School in 2006, where she gained her first experience in theater acting, she moved to Missouri State University in Springfield , Missouri . There she continued her work in the theater sector, worked alongside the Creative Actor's Workshop , a professional film acting group, and graduated from university on May 14, 2010 with a "Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting". After graduating from college, Sweetser planned to move to Los Angeles to start her acting career. From 2007 to 2009 she was in Los Angeles every summer to work on her later career as an actress, completing various internships and taking on smaller jobs in the film industry.

She finally had her big breakthrough in the same year, when she played alongside the later Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence in the drama Winter's Bone , where she mimed the character of Gail , the main character's best friend. Through her acting teacher, former actor Scott Arthur Allen , Sweetser came up with a " table read " with a new script based on Daniel Woodrell's work Winter's Bone . Without having set great expectations, she made it into the cast of the drama against 200 other people who attended the reading rehearsal and auditioned for the role. After auditioning at the beginning of her studies, it was only after a year and a half (2008) that she was told that she would get the role. After initial difficulties, the producers did not get another video audition Sweetsers, because it was lost in the mail, and if Sweetser was initially supposed to play a smaller character by the name of Megan , the young actress was called personally by the director Debra Granik again to audition face to face. Only then was she offered the important supporting role of Gail , around a week before shooting began .

The film premiered at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival , where the film won the Jury Grand Prize . In the months that followed, the film or the people who worked on it won numerous other awards; there were just as many nominations. Lauren Sweetser was also several times an award winner or nominee; u. a. She was honored with the rest of the film cast with a Gotham Award in the category "Best Ensemble". She also participated in the “Best Ensemble” award from the Detroit Film Critics Society , as well as in the nomination in the same category by the Southeastern Film Critics Association .

After the success with Winter's Bone , the young actress was largely quiet. In 2010 she was able to make an appearance in the pilot episode of Law & Order: LA , after which she worked almost exclusively in short films. Including Scraps in 2011, as well as Stop Traffick and T and Sugar (2013). She also had another appearance in 2012 in the 23rd episode of the third season of Navy CIS: LA , in which she played the informant Mara White.
