Reading sample

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The reading rehearsal in the theater is usually the first rehearsal or rehearsal phase with the assembled ensemble at the beginning of a rehearsal period in which the entire play is read with assigned roles. It also serves as an introduction to the test work on a certain scene .

The reading sample takes place at the table and requires that all participants ( director , dramaturge , assistant director , actor ) have the same text in front of them. It is mainly used to enter the lines and to discuss ambiguities. It also gives a first impression of the cast and the temporal proportions of the text read. It is not customary to learn the roles before the reading rehearsal , but familiarity with the piece is assumed. - Traditionally, the rehearsal follows the reading sample .

In publishing , free excerpts from books or magazines are also referred to as reading samples .
