This article looks at the history of Georgia as a participant in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest .
Preliminary decisions
From the debut in 2007 until 2011, national preliminary rounds were held every year. Castings took place in 2012 and 2013 and a jury put groups together specifically for the JESC. In 2014 Lizi Pop was selected by a preliminary jury decision, as was Virus in 2015 and Mariam Mamadashvili in 2016.
Participation in the competition
The national broadcaster GBP is a member of the European Broadcasting Union and even though the country is geographically part of Asia , singers and groups from Georgia take part.
In 2007 they participated for the first time and came fourth. In 2008 they won with 154 points, in 2009 the seventh place was by far the worst result so far. After a fourth place in 2010, the country won again in 2011 and is one of only three countries with two victories, alongside Belarus and Malta. In 2012 they finished second for the first time, but the gap to the winner was the largest in the history of the competition. After another top five placement in 2013, they finished eleventh in 2014, the worst position in the country at the time since their debut in 2007. Tenth place in 2015 also caused a kink in the Georgian success curve. In 2016, Mariam Mamadashvili won Georgia for the third time in Malta. Georgia is the country with the most victories, ahead of Malta, Russia and Belarus. In 2017 the competition took place for the first time in Georgia, in the capital Tbilisi. Here you came second. In 2019, Georgia undercut its previously worst result: Giorgi Rostiashvili achieved 14th place with 69 points.
Georgia is also the only country that has sung in an imaginary language: in 2008 they won with Bzz , in 2010 they came fourth with Mari-Dari .
