The 9th Junior Eurovision Song Contest was held on December 3, 2011 in the Karen Demirtschjan Complex in Yerevan , Armenia .

For the first time in the history of the contest, last year's winning country is hosting the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. According to supervisor Sietse Bakker, the high reputation of the competition in Armenia was the decisive factor. In an interview, Bakker reported that the EBU appreciated "the broad approval of this event in all social classes in Armenia."

Attendees

  • Participants in 2011
  • Countries that have participated in the past but not in 2011
  • Initially, twelve countries have agreed to take part in the competition, making the JESC 2011 the competition with the lowest number of participants since the introduction of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2003. However, the Armenian radio managed to say that Bulgaria would join the field two months after the registration deadline. On September 9, Latvia announced that it would still take part after it had been canceled for financial reasons.

With the representative of Russia, Yekaterina Ryabova , a singer who had already participated in the JESC in the past appeared for the first time: in 2009 she took third place. The existing rules actually prohibit a singer from participating in the JESC multiple times, but an exception was made for Ryabova. In 2012, an interpreter who sang for Moldova in 2011 took on the same country. So this rule only seems to apply on paper.

On October 8th, the San Marino broadcaster (SMRTV) announced that it would not be able to take part in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2011 due to a new satellite channel from SMRTV that began broadcasting in June.
