This article deals with the history of Denmark as a participant in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest .

Preliminary decisions

The De Ungens Melodi Grand Prix took place from 2003 to 2005 .

Participation in the competition

After adapting the JESC model from the Melodi Grand Prix Nordic, Denmark was allowed to host the first competition in 2003 in Copenhagen . With two fifths and one fourth, Denmark was one of the most successful nations in the competition in the early years. Since 2006, however, they have not taken part in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, as professional help was allowed from the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2006 . Norway has not participated since then. Both countries have so far dedicated themselves to the Melodi Grand Prix Nordic. Immediately after the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2015 , the Danish radio announced the reason for the country's absence since 2006. Jan Lagermand Lundme, director of entertainment at DR , said the competition was fun even though it was a competition. However, he criticized the fact that the competition was too similar to the Eurovision Song Contest and had strayed too far from its core idea - "the joy, the humor and the game".
