This article looks at the history of San Marino as a participant in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest .

Preliminary decisions

Michele Perniola, 2013 in Kiev

The participant and song for 2013 was chosen internally. The performers for 2014 were selected on September 29, 2014 from among the participants in the Vocine Nuove di Castrocaro competition. Kamilla Ismailova, a Russian with Azerbaijani roots, asked SMRTV directly whether she could represent San Marino in Sofia and was ultimately chosen as the interpreter, with 75% of her title, which was originally entirely in English, had to be translated into Italian.

Participation in the competition

In 2013, San Marino was the first Western European debutant at the JESC since Portugal's debut in 2006. In addition, Italian was sung again for the first time since the Swiss contribution in 2004. Due to an exception, San Marino can also choose Italian performers, as the country has only about 30,000 inhabitants. In 2013 they came in 10th out of 12 places. In 2014, San Marino also took part in the JESC and came second to last with 21 points, eight from Italy, one from Malta and twelve from the EBU. 2013 participant Michele Perniola and a member of the 2014 group, Anita Simoncini, took part in the adult edition of the Eurovision Song Contest in 2015 . On September 27th, San Marino confirmed its participation for 2015. Also in 2015, San Marino reached only one of the last places with rank 14 out of 17. On July 14, 2016, SMRTV announced that it would withdraw from JESC 2016 . Reasons for the withdrawal were not given, however.
