The 2nd Junior Eurovision Song Contest took place on November 20, 2004 in Lillehammer , Norway . The television broadcaster NRK organized the competition, Stian Barsnes Simonsen and Nadia Hasnaoui took over the moderation, the latter was also one of the moderators at the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 in Oslo .

18 countries took part, but 20 countries initially registered, including Germany and Israel . However, they ultimately withdrew their participation. There were rumors that Ireland was also interested in participating. Israel took part for the first time in 2012 and Ireland will make its debut in 2015.

The winner of the JESC 2004 was María Isabel from Spain with her song Antes Muerta Que Sencilla . Last year's winner Dino Jelusić presented her with the trophy. She is still considered the most commercially successful JESC winner and has chart successes in Latin America. She still publishes CDs in her home country today.

In 9th place, Greece received more high scores than Great Britain, which finished second behind Spain. In contrast to Croatia or Romania, which ended up in fourth and third place, France, as the sixth-placed contribution, received points from all participating countries. The same three countries as in 2003 made the podium, just in a different order: Spain, Great Britain and Croatia.

  • Participant in 2004
  • The event was broadcast in 20 countries and was seen by around 100 million people in total. France and Switzerland were newcomers, making Switzerland the first and so far only German-speaking country at the JESC, but did not compete with a German-language song.

    organizer

The event rights were originally given to the British broadcaster ITV , which wanted to host the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Manchester. In May 2004, however, ITV's rights were withdrawn due to financial and organizational problems and passed on to the second applicant Croatia. At the time of the JESC, the Croatian broadcaster HRT already had other plans and refused to host it. Only then did the Norwegian broadcaster NRK get in touch and agree to host the event.
