The 12th Eurovision Young Dancers took place on June 24th, 2011 at Dansens Hus, in Oslo , Norway . It was the first edition of the competition in six years, as the competitions of 2007 and 2009 were canceled. The 2011 competition was organized by NRK , which hosted an EYD for the first time.
The winner was the Norwegian dancer Daniel Sarr with his dance Full Force . It was Norway's first win in the competition. It was also the first time that the winner could win in his home country. The Slovenian dancer Petra Zupančić landed in second place.
venue
NRK chose the Dansens Hus in Oslo as the venue . It was the first EYD that Norway held.
format
Dancers between the ages of 15 and 21 could perform. However, only solo dancers or couples could compete. However, there were changes in the format compared to the last competition in 2005. The semifinals were abolished and a final duel was introduced. In the first round, all participants compete against each other, while a professional jury selects the two best participants for the final duel. There the two dancers perform another dance and the jury then determines the winner and second place. The professional jury in 2011 consisted of the following people:
Moderation
The Norwegian moderator Erik Solbakken acted as moderator . He was already the moderator of the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 .
Attendees
Only ten countries took part in 2011, which was the lowest number of participants in the history of the competition. Finally, compared to 2005, seven countries withdrew from the competition. Belgium, Finland, Latvia, Romania, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom and Cyprus all canceled their participation in 2011. But Germany returned to competition after ten years, while Portugal returned after 20 years of abstinence. Croatia and Kosovo also took part for the first time. For the latter it was the first participation in a Eurovision competition, whereby Kosovo is not a member of the EBU and could only take part by invitation.
final
The final took place on July 24, 2011. Ten participants competed against each other, of which two participants qualified for the final duel.
