  • The 14th Eurovision Young Musicians took place on May 9th, 2008 in Vienna , the capital of Austria . It was the fourth competition in total and the second in a row that took place in Vienna. It was also the opening concert of the Wiener Festwochen . The winner of the competition is the clarinetist Dionysios Grammenos from Greece with the piece Concerto pour clarinette et orchester (4th part) by Jean Françaix .

    Semi-finals

    The semi-finals took place on May 4th and 5th in the Theater an der Wien . It was only open to invited listeners. The result of this preliminary decision was announced at a press conference on May 6th at Vienna City Hall Square .

    Dionysios Grammenos from Greece, winner 2008

    The final took place on Friday, May 9th, 2008 at Vienna City Hall Square in front of around 45,000 people. For the first time, Austrian television viewers were also able to vote on their favorite candidate through a viewer SMS voting.

    The participants were judged by an expert jury headed by Sir Roger Norrington .

    The finalists were accompanied by the Wiener Symphoniker under the direction of Aleksandar Markovic .
