Lidia Baich (born November 29, 1981 in Leningrad ) is an Austrian violinist .

biography

Born in St. Petersburg (then Leningrad), the Austrian comes from a Russian family of musicians on her mother's side, her Austrian father is a cellist . At the age of four, she received violin lessons from her grandfather on a sixteenth-note violin made especially for her. Then she studied with Boris Kuschnir in Vienna. At the age of eight she won her first international competition, which was followed by numerous other first prizes. Her extraordinary musical achievement finally brought her, at the age of sixteen, victory at the Eurovision Young Musicians 1998 and the award "European Musician of the Year", which was presented to her personally by Lord Yehudi Menuhin . Lidia Baich married the Austrian tenor Andreas Schager (* 1971) on February 23, 2017 . She has a son (* 2018) with him and another son from her first marriage.

Concert career

Lidia Baich appears both as a soloist with an orchestra and with recitals in the most important concert halls. Numerous tours have taken her to Japan, China, Russia, USA, Korea, South Africa, Argentina, Brazil and England. She played under conductors such as Lorin Maazel , Vladimir Fedoseyev , Juri Temirkanov, Jukka-Pekka Saraste , Kristjan Järvi , Bertrand de Billy and Jakov Kreizberg with the world's largest orchestras, such as the New York Philharmonic , the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic and the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra , the NHK-Sinfonieorchester , the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra , the Berliner Symphoniker , the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks , the Wiener Symphoniker , the Orchester National de France , the Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini or the Camerata Salzburg .

She has made guest appearances at festivals such as the Wiener Festwochen , the Salzburg Festival , the Dubrovnik Festival , the Moritzburg Festival and the Johannesburg Mozart Festival .

In 2002 Lidia Baich was invited by Lorin Maazel to go on a world tour alongside star tenor Andrea Bocelli . The following year she took part in the tenth anniversary of Pavarotti and Friends in Modena.

In 2008 she released her first CD on Deutsche Grammophon . In 2009 she was the official ambassador for the Haydn Year . Lidia Baich is also active as a juror in renowned violin competitions, such as B. the Eurovisons or the Menuhin competition.

In 2011 she released her second CD / DVD with pianist Matthias Fletzberger with arrangements of well-known symphonic ballet works under the title Violin in Motion. at Deutsche Grammophon.

In 2015 she was involved in the opening of the final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna. She played part of Udo Juergens ' song Merci, Chérie .
