Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra
The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO for short; Orkestra Filharmonik Malaysia ) was founded in 1997. The MPO is based in the capital Kuala Lumpur . The orchestra resides in the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas (Petronas Philharmonic Hall) in Kuala Lumpur. The first concert of the 105-piece orchestra took place there on August 17, 1998 under chief conductor Kees Bakels . The orchestra regularly gives concerts across Malaysia and Singapore . In addition, the MPO also went on guest tours: Korea (2001), Australia (2004), China (2006, 2019), Taiwan (2007) and Japan (2001, 2009, 2017).
The orchestra's motto is: Hear and You Will See (Hear and You Will See)

Numerous guest conductors, including Lorin Maazel , Vadim Repin and Sir Neville Marriner , have also conducted the MPO.
Performances
The MPO has made recordings for the BIS label, including the music of the French composer Édouard Lalo .
The repertoire has a very broad repertoire : Classical composers such as Ludwig van Beethoven or Niccolò Paganini are just as much a part of the MPO's repertoire as composers of the 20th century such as Alfred Schnittke , George Enescu , Miklós Rózsa and Erich Wolfgang Korngold .

The MPO has 36 regular musicians. There is also a youth orchestra, the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.
