Vadim Repin (Wadim Wiktorowitsch Repin, [ˈvɐ'dim 'viktɐrvitʃ' repin] , Вадим Викторович Репин; born August 31, 1971 in Novosibirsk ) is a Russian violinist and lives in Vienna. Yehudi Menuhin said of Vadim Repin: "He is simply the best and most perfect violinist I have ever heard."

Career

At the age of five he began to play the violin with Dmitri Waks, on whose initiative he studied with Zakhar Bron , the famous violin teacher, two years later .

He attracted international attention when in 1989 he was the youngest ever to win the Reine Elisabeth Concours .

As a soloist he gave concerts with the Berlin Philharmonic , the Vienna Philharmonic , the Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam and played with Simon Rattle , Valeri Gergijew and Mariss Jansons .

Repin has made frequent appearances at Carnegie Hall and the London Proms . In May 2010 he gave the world premiere of James MacMillan's Violin Concerto with the London Symphony Orchestra under Gergiev .

Vadim Repin has been Artistic Director of the Trans-Siberian-Art Festival since 2014.

Vadim Repin married Caroline Diemunsch in 2001. In 2006 their son Leonardo was born. He has meanwhile married Svetlana Sakharova , the prima ballerina of the Bolshoi Ballet , with whom he has had a daughter since February 2011.
