Prima ballerina

Prima ballerina is the title of the first ( Italian prima ) soloist, the leading dancer (Italian ballerina ) of a performance or a ballet ensemble . As a rule, a prima ballerina must be able to perform classical roles.

The male equivalent is the master dancer or primoballerino . At the Paris Opera , the term Première danseuse étoile or Premier danseur étoile (male) - étoile for short - is common.
