Siw Gunnel Margareta Malmkvist (born December 31, 1936 in Landskrona ) is a Swedish pop singer and actress . From 1959 she also released records in Germany and in 1964 she had a number one hit with the title Lovesick is Not Worth It .

Career

At the age of 19 Siw sang the first records in Sweden and already had a great success in her debut year with the song Augustin , because the title was awarded the gold record . With Augustin , her record company Metronome Records started Siw's career in Germany. The title Trocadero 9910 became her first hit parade in the summer of 1960, and in the same year she also appeared in German cinemas for the first time in the Danish film Verliebt in Copenhagen . From this film four songs were released on single and EP . In 1962 she won second place at the German Schlager Festival in Baden-Baden with The Paths of Love and in 1964 first place with the title Lovesickness is not worth it . This song by Christian Bruhn , which has sold a million times, took first place in the German sales hit parade for twelve weeks in 1964 and earned it a gold record . In 1965 , Malmkvist took 3rd place with the title Das fifth Rad am Wagen at the 5th German Schlager Festival and won again in 1968, this time at the German Schlager Competition, with the title Harlequin by Hans Blum . In the same year she had another big hit called Carneval in Caracas . With Adiole , Siw Malmkvist was able to record a great hit hit in 1970. She later rewrote this song to the title “Oh RWE” for the Rot-Weiss Essen soccer club , which is still played there as a goal anthem to this day.

After 37 singles, Malmkvist's contract with the record company Metronome expired in 1971. With the metronome title Liebe wie im Rosengarten , a cover version of the Lynn Anderson hit Rose Garden , Siw had achieved her last chart success in 1971. From 1972 she published her records at BASF , where another five singles were produced until 1974. With the songs Love is called L'amour (1973), He loves me (1974) and Sascha Takes the Violin (1974) Siw Malmkvist was able to place himself in several radio hit parades.

After various participations in the Swedish preliminary decision, Siw Malmkvist represented Sweden in 1960 with the song Alla andra får varann at the Eurovision Song Contest and reached 10th place among 13 participants. In 1969 she took part in the competition again as the winner of the German preliminary round and thus as the representative of Germany. In Madrid with Hans Blums' prima ballerina she won 9th place out of 16 participants and did not receive a single point from her home country Sweden. In 2004 she was able to qualify together with Towa Carson and Ann-Louise Hanson and the title C'est la vie for the final of the Swedish preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest - Melodifestivalen . It wasn't enough for the international final; the trio only reached 10th place nationally. In 1996 she moderated the Swedish preliminary decision.

From 2004 to the end of 2007 she toured Germany with Wencke Myhre and Gitte Hænning with the joint program Gitte, Wencke, Siw - Die Show . For this they were jointly awarded the Golden Tuning Fork in 2004 (platinum special price).

Malmkvist appeared in the Swedish version of the musical Flashdance and published her memoir in 2010 under the title Tunna skivor av mig . In 2016 she was inducted into the Swedish Music Hall of Fame. In 2017 she was on stage with her colleagues Lill-Babs and Ann-Louise Hanson all over Sweden under the motto "183 år på scen" ("183 years on stage") .
