Pelle Svanslös och den stora skattjakten (Eng. About Pelle Ohneschwanz and the great treasure hunt ) is a Swedish comedy film directed by Mikael Ekman from 2000. It is loosely based on the children's book series about the cat Pelle Svanslös by Gösta Knutsson .

action

The old Gammel-Maja happens to find an old treasure map in her tower apartment in Uppsala Cathedral , which describes the way to a treasure in the church tower . Meanwhile, Pelle Ohneschwanz is converting a hair dryer , which he wants to give to the mother of his friend Molly Sahnenase for her birthday, into a practical vacuum cleaner. Molly's mother doesn't like him very well, not only does he have a stubby tail, but has even moved into an apartment with Molly. Pelle's eternal adversary Mike Mäuseschreck and his cronies Bill and Bull also make life difficult for Pelle: They secretly manipulate the hairdryer before Pelle packs it. After all, at the birthday party, the hair dryer doesn't suck, but blows everyone over. Molly's mother is outraged and pretends to be badly hurt; Molly is also not very enthusiastic about Pelle's present and stays with her mother to look after her. She is now doing everything to ensure that Molly separates from Pelle.

Mike, Bill and Bull bring Gammel-Maja from host Trisse something to their tower. She tells them that there is treasure hidden in the cathedral, but they don't take it seriously. However, this does not prevent the three from selling fake treasure maps for fish in front of the cathedral. They also pretend to Pelle that a treasure is hidden in the cathedral because they want to lure him into a trap. In the end Mike himself gets caught in it. Mike and his cronies finally realize that Gammel-Maja has a real treasure map, but they look in vain for it in her tower hiding place. Meanwhile, Molly realizes that her mother is only pretending to be sick and wants to return to Pelle. In the meantime, he has hired an interior designer to redesign the apartment, which Molly misinterprets as a romance. She cries out at Gammel-Maja and finally returns to her mother.

Gammel-Maja is now active to bring both of them back together. She shares her treasure map and sends the halves to Pelle and Molly. Mike manages to get Pelle's half, but landlord Trisse and Pelle accidentally made a copy. In the end, Molly and her friend Gullan, Pelle and Trisse as well as Mike, Bill and Bull appear in the cathedral and look for the treasure. Molly falls from a beam and is rescued by Pelle, whereupon the two make up. In the fall, Molly lost her treasure map, which Mike takes. However, he looks in vain for the treasure and is finally chased out of the building and into a tree by the dog Pettersson with Bill and Bull. Meanwhile, Pelle, Molly, Trisse and Gullan have accidentally locked themselves in a tower room on their search. In a daring action, they rappel down into the twin tower of the cathedral. Here you will finally find the treasure chest, which is filled to the brim with fish cans. At the end there is a big festival at which the fish cans are eaten. Pettersson, who is usually hostile to all cats, is invited and given bones to eat. The duo Bill and Bull can also take a seat at the table. Only Mike remains alone in the tree in front of Trisse's inn.

production

The twin towers of Uppsala Cathedral, a central motif of the film

The stories about Gösta Knutsson's Pelle Schwanzlos had been implemented as animated films several times since the 1960s (including Pelle Ohneschwanz (1981), Pelle on a long journey (1985)). In 1997 the Swedish TV station SVT 1 selected the stories about Pelle Schwanzlos for the annual series Julkalender ("Christmas calendar") and broadcast the series Pelle Svanslös from December 1, 1997 in 24 15-minute parts. A special feature was that the series was implemented as a real film in costumes. The series was also released on video in October 1998 in two parts.

The film Pelle Svanslös och den stora skattjakten was shot in 1999 as a continuation of the television series . It was created in two SVT studios in Stockholm's free port. Most actors took on the roles in the film that they had already played in the series. Gammel-Maja was played this time by Siw Malmkvist instead of Ulla Akselson . The film is not based on a Knutsson story, it just used the characters; the script was written by Pernilla Oljelund. Directed by Mikael Ekman, the brother of Gösta Ekman .

Pelle Svanslös och den stora skattjakten was released in Swedish cinemas on October 6, 2000 and was shown on SVT 1 on Swedish television on December 26, 2004. It was released on DVD in Sweden in August 2005. Distribution was carried out by Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment AB, Stockholm.

criticism

In Zoom , Pia Huss criticizes the fact that the director and screenwriter do not seem to have attached much importance to either dramaturgy or speed. Film critic Michael Tapper called the film "a thin story about a seldom boring treasure hunt in Uppsala Cathedral" that could have been told in 15 minutes like a Yule calendar episode.
