Brita Kerstin Gunvor Borg (born June 10, 1926 in Stockholm , † May 4, 2010 in Borgholm ) was a Swedish singer and actress .

Life

Brita Borg was born in the Södermalm district of Stockholm . In 1943, at the age of 17, she won a singing competition organized by Vecko-Revyn magazine . Her singing career began shortly thereafter with the revue singing group Vårat gang . In 1945 she founded the vocal quartet Flickery Flies together with the singer Allan Johansson , whom she later married . In 1947 she began working with the Swedish variety singer, musician and author Povel Ramel for many years . She appeared on his radio show Fyra kring en flygel . From 1952 to 1962 she appeared several times in Ramel's music show Knäppupp .

Her best-known music numbers in the Knäppupp reviews included Fat Mammy Brown , in which she played an American jazz and gospel singer with a black make-up and a padded costume , the Tango Banne mej from the musical Funny Boy by Povel Ramel and Hasse Ekman , in which she embodied the seductive gypsy Zamora , and Ulliga krulliga gubbar , a satirical song in the style of Dixieland . The Swedish comedian duo and team of authors Hasse Alfredson and Tage Danielsson wrote more successful titles for the Knäppupp reviews for Borg : Alla kan ju inte älska alla här i världen , Aldrig har jag sett en rak banana and Du är min tekopp . In 1962, her career peaked with the parody song The Borg .

With the song Augustin , originally sung by Siw Malmkvist and Gunnar Wiklund , the winning title of the Melodifestival , the Swedish preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest , she represented Sweden in Cannes at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1959 and came in 9th place. In 1960 she sang the songs Oj då kära nån and Märta Melin och Ture Tyrén as a duet partner of Hasse Alfredson . Together with the legendary singer Evert Taube , she sang in a duet in two recordings, Invitation till Guatemala and Mary Strand . In 1961 a long-playing record was released on which she interpreted Århundradets melodically , including Hässelbysteppen , Min soldat and Sjösala vals . From 1964 Borg performed together with the entertainer Hagge Geigert in Uddevalla and Gothenburg , with the entertainer Kar de Mumma she appeared in his music shows, the Kar de Mumma-revyn , in the Folkteatern (Folkan) in Stockholm.

Borg mainly sang traditional pop songs and hits , including cover versions of original Italian titles ( La strada dell'amore , Ciao ciao Bambina ). Her last hit came from the pen of Stig Anderson , Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson : Ljuva sextiotal , who was in the Swedish Svensktoppen for over 20 weeks in 1969 .

From the late 1960s, Borg often appeared at the Riksteatern , including as millionaire widow Sally Adams in the musical Call Me Madam (1967) and as an art writer Annie Oakley in the musical Annie Get Your Gun (1973). From the 1970s she went on extensive tours with the ensemble of the Riksteatern and has appeared in Chicago , Fiddler on the Roof , Die Dreigroschenoper and Feuerwerk ( Oh my Papa ), among others. In 1983 she and Halvar Björk took on the female lead in the theater play Polskan och puckelryggen by Richard Hobert, which was also recorded for television .

Borg was also seen in a few Swedish cinema productions from the 1940s and later in television films. She often had guest appearances as a singer.

Borg died after a short illness in Borgholm.
