Anna Henrietta Bergendahl (born December 11, 1991 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish singer. She gained fame through her participation in the Swedish casting show Idol (2008). In 2010 she took part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 with the English title This Is My Life .

biography

The daughter of a doctor and a teacher was born in the Stockholm district of Hägersten and grew up with three older siblings in Nyköping and Katrineholm . Inspired by the Disney film The Lion King and her father's old long-playing records, Bergendahl began to be enthusiastic about music at an early age and to perform public singing appearances. She mentions Tracy Chapman , Norah Jones , John Mayer , Van Morrison , Damien Rice and the Swedish artists Lisa Ekdahl and Jill Johnson as musical role models .

At the age of ten she wrote her first songs. Two years later, Bergendahl took part in the program Super Troupers (2004) broadcast by private television station TV4 , a music show for children. There the 12-year-old performed next to well-known young artists such as Amy Diamond and Jonathan Fagerlund . With the title “Play That Funky Music”, however, she lost out to one year older Frida von Schewen.

Bergendahl, who has also played guitar since she was eight, remembered a broad Swedish television audience in 2008 when she took part in the fifth season of the TV4 talent show Idol . In the Swedish version of Pop Idol she presented songs by Oh Laura ( Release Me ), ABBA ( Mamma Mia ), Tommy Körberg ( Stad i Ijus ), Cher ( Save Up All Your Tears ), Leona Lewis ( Bleeding Love ), Tina Turner ( Simply The Best ) and Eva Cassidy ( Over the Rainbow ). Praised for her interpretation of ballads, the 16-year-old finished fifth in the victory of five-year-old Kevin Borg . Her singles, published as part of the casting show, were able to place in the Swedish charts.

In May 2009, Bergendahl announced that they had signed a contract with the record company Lionheart Records and were working on their debut album. A year later she took part for the first time in the Swedish preliminary round of the Eurovision Song Contest , the melodifestivalen organized by the public television broadcaster SVT . With the English-language ballad This Is My Life , composed by Bobby Ljunggren and Kristian Lagerström , the blonde artist was the favorite of the Swedish bookmakers to win. On March 13th, Anna Bergendahl won the Melodifestival in Stockholm's Globen with 31 points ahead of Salem Al Fakir ( Keep On Walking ). She represented Sweden at the 55th Eurovision Song Contest on May 27, 2010 in Oslo in the second semifinals, but for the first time in the history of the ESC for Sweden could not qualify for the final two days later. She reached eleventh place with 62 points and was five points behind the tenth-placed formation Jon Lilygreen & The Islanders from Cyprus , which reached the final.

This Is My Life topped the Swedish singles charts from March 5 to April 1, 2010 . Her debut album Yours Sincerely was released on April 21, 2010 by Lionheart Records and two days later it hit number one on the Swedish album charts. However, it only stayed in the top spot for a week.

In 2019 Bergendahl again applied to the Melodifestivalen with the song Ashes To Ashes and was able to move into the Andra Chansen round with a third place in the first semi-final , where she prevailed against Andreas Johnson and made it to the final. There she took tenth place.

The following year she took part in the Melodifestivalen again with the song Kingdom Come and took first place in the second semi-final, whereupon she moved straight to the final and ultimately came third.
