Loreen
Loreen ( Arabic لورين زينب نوكا طلحاوي, Central Atlas Tamazight ⵍⵓⵔⵉⵏ ⵣⵉⵏⴱ ⵏⵓⵔⴰ ⵜⴰⵍⵃⴰⵡⵉ Lurin Zineb Nura Talḥawi ; * October 16, 1983 as Lorine Zineb Nora Talhaoui in Stockholm ) is a Swedish singer of Berber - Moroccan origin. In 2012 she won the Eurovision Song Contest for Sweden with the song Euphoria .
Life
Loreen was born in Stockholm to Berber-Moroccan parents, but grew up in Västerås . Under the name Lorén Talhaoui, she took part in the first season of the casting show Idol - the Swedish equivalent of Pop Idol - which was broadcast between August and November 2004 on TV4 . She was eliminated in the quarterfinals on November 12th as fourth from the competition. After the show, she released the song The Snake with Rob'n'Raz , which did not make it into the Swedish charts. She also worked as a presenter for TV400, but after that it became quieter for the singer. She names Björk , Enya and Lisa Gerrard as musical role models .
In 2011 Loreen took part in the Melodifestivalen , the Swedish qualification for the Eurovision Song Contest . Her song My Heart Is Refusing Me was written by her, Moh Denebi and Björn Djupström. In the second semi-final on February 12, 2011, she reached fourth place, but qualified for the Andra Chansen , a "second chance round", in which she was eliminated. With My Heart Is Refusing Me , she took ninth place in the Swedish charts.
In 2012 she returned to Melodifestivalen , this time with the song Euphoria, composed and written by Thomas G: son and Peter Boström . The choreography of her performance plays with dance elements from the Brazilian martial art form of capoeira . In the first semi-final on February 4, Loreen prevailed against her competition with around 160,000 calls and qualified directly for the final on March 10 in Stockholm. There she received the most votes from both the European jurors and the Swedish televoters, representing Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku . After her victory, Euphoria reached the top of the charts in several countries, while in Sweden the song was chart number one in early March. In addition, she was among the bookmakers as one of the favorites to win the Eurovision Song Contest. On May 24th she made it into the ESC final two days later, which she won with 372 points ahead of the Russian Buranowskije Babuschki (259 points) and Željko Joksimović from Serbia (214 points).
In the course of her second participation in Melodifestivalen , her song Sober , which was actually released in September 2011, also made it into the Swedish charts .
On October 8, 2012, the single Crying Out Your Name was released .
Her first studio album Heal was released on October 26, 2012 in Germany. In their home country Sweden, the album took first place in the charts.
Together with a deaf choir and a children's choir, she interpreted her previous year's winner Euphoria in sign language and singing as the opening song of the first semifinal of the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 . In the finale, she sang her new single We Got the Power , released on May 17, 2013 .
At the Melodifestivalen 2017 , Loreen again reached the Andra Chansen with the song Statements , in which she was eliminated from Anton Hagman .
Political motivation
In the run-up to the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 , Loreen caused an international sensation by publicly speaking out on the human rights situation in the host country Azerbaijan and meeting with opposition groups in the country. Together with Anke Engelke's message to the Azerbaijani opposition during the ESC scoring via video message, which is typical for the ESC, Talhaoui was one of the few central figures who publicly announced their political convictions.
