Jacqueline Boyer (born April 23, 1941 in Paris , actually Eliane Ducos ) is a French chanson and pop singer who also sang under the pseudonym Barbara Benton .

Life

Her mother was the singer Lucienne Boyer , who achieved world fame with her interpretation of Parlez-moi d'amour . Her father Jacques Pills (René Ducos) was also a well-known singer. He was also married to Edith Piaf for a few years after the divorce from Lucienne Boyer , making this Jacqueline Boyer's stepmother.

Her breakthrough came in 1960. With the song Tom Pillibi she won the Eurovision Song Contest and then had a real hit in Europe as the first winner of the contest. In the same year she also won the Le coq d'or (The golden rooster) of the French chanson with the title Comme au premier jour . With the title Oui, oui, oui - ça va, ça va! In the same year she appeared in the German hit film Schlagerraketen - Festival of Hearts alongside many other stars of the time.

Then they reached several contract offers: Boyer sang in the first part of the Charles Aznavour shows. In November 1960 she married her colleague François Lubiana. The marriage lasted until 1968. She traveled to the United States and was engaged there for various television shows ( Pat Boone , Perry Como , Ed Sullivan ). Back in France , she went on tour with Jacques Brel and Georges Brassens . In 1963 Jacqueline Boyer had her greatest hit hit in Germany with the title Mitsou by Christian Bruhn . She also sang in Stuttgart for the election ceremony of Federal Chancellor Willy Brandt .

A serious car accident in 1966 interrupted her career for around two years. It was not until 1968 that she was able to continue her career in Germany with a new record deal with Cornet with four more hits that were summarized on the album Jacqueline Boyer . With Mucho amore , she even had another top 10 success. After 1969, she did not have another hit. In 1971, Bruno Coquatrix , director of the music temple “Olympia”, offered her to perform with the master of French chanson, Charles Trenet . This was followed by further concert tours, again with Charles Aznavour , a. a. in Germany, the London Palladium, Japan and New York. In between, she put on a music show with her mother in Paris, again at the Olympic Theater.

Her touring inspired her to "Americanize" her own show. She hired a new team of musicians and changed her name to Barbara Benton . She made several records under this pseudonym.

After many years she returned to France and again took on her own name. In memory of her mother, she put on a show called Parlez-moi d'amour , with which she had success in Canada and then toured France with this new program.
