Jessy Matador (* 27. October 1982 as Jessy Kimbangi ) is a singer and dancer from the Democratic Republic of Congo . In 2010 he took part in the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) for France .

biography

Jessy Matador was born as Jessy Kimbangi in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (until 1997 Zaïre). Inspired by hip-hop and the obscenely criticized Congolese dance style N'dombolo , he began a career as a dancer in 2001 at the age of 18. He joined Dany Engobo's French-African formation Les Coeurs Brisés , with whom he performed in his native Congo, Europe and North America. In 2005 Matador started his own dance group, the five-member La Selesao . With their program Le Show Kanawa , which is based on African rumba , La Selesao was won as a support act for Magic System and performed in the Parisian concert hall Bataclan . In 2008, the matador, who now lives in France, attracted attention as a singer. The title Décalé gwada , released in June , became a summer hit and made it into the French charts, while the music video was viewed by four million people on the Internet. Thereupon Matador released his first album Afrikan New Style at the end of November , whose single Mini kawoulé was also able to assert itself in the French charts for weeks from December 2008. Matador's songs are influenced by the styles Coupé Decalé , Zouk , N'dombolo and Kuduru, but also by dancehall and hip-hop.

In April 2009, Matador released the compilation Hits Des Tout-Petits . A year later, the singer and dancer was internally designated as a French participant in the 55th Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo . Organizer France Télévisions wanted a “dynamic contribution with choreography” after thinking about sending various French artists such as the Nouvelle Star winner Christophe Willem and rumors about the sending of the DJ David Guetta . As a French candidate automatically set for the ESC final on May 29, 2010, Matador performed the French-language title Allez Ola Olé and took twelfth place. The song reached the same time in the French singles chart top spot .

Allez Ola Olé , composed and written by Hugues Ducamin and Jacques Ballue, is to be used by French television for the broadcast of the soccer World Cup from South Africa and also reached number 17 in the German charts. His second album Elektro Soukouss was released on June 14, 2010 .
