Marie Myriam (real name: Myriam Lopes ) (born May 8, 1957 in Luluabourg ( Kananga ), Democratic Republic of the Congo ) is a French singer of Portuguese descent.

Career

She celebrated the greatest success of her career in 1977 when she won the Eurovision Song Contest . At the competition, which was held on May 7, 1977 at Wembley , UK , she surprisingly sat down with her chanson L'oiseau et l'enfant (English: 'The bird and the child') (composition: Jean-Paul Cara, text: Joe Gracy) narrowly against local favorites Lynsey de Paul & Mike Moran .

Myriam has released numerous albums in her career. As the last French winner, she was invited almost every year since 1997 to transmit the results to the French jury during the broadcast of the Song Contest.

In 2007 her album Encore was released with titles from the 1980s, new versions of older pieces, but also completely new songs. The Christmas album Tous lesantes followed in 2008 .
