Sertab Erener
Sertab Erener (born December 4, 1964 in Istanbul ) is a Turkish singer and one of the most successful artists of Turkish pop music .
biography
childhood
Sertab was a thin girl in her childhood. She fell ill with colon catarrh at the age of eleven and had to be hospitalized several times. To distract her from her illness , her mother tried to get Sertab interested in playing the piano . She received lessons and from this developed a passion for music.
youth
Sertab began her vocal training at the grammar school in the choir of Işık Lisesi and continued it at the State Conservatory of İstanbul ( İstanbul Belediye Konservatuvarı ). With her powerful voice, she trained as a soprano in six years .
Career
After her training, Sertab performed in the most prestigious clubs in İstanbul and gradually won over the audience. Sezen Aksu became aware of her at the end of the 1980s and has accompanied her career ever since. Sertab became better known through joint appearances and released her first album Sakin Ol in 1992 . The compositions and lyrics for most of the songs on the album were written by Aksus. Together they sold 950,000 copies of Sakin Ol . Fahir Atakoğlu composed for Sertab's next album Lâ'l (1994). Like the following album, Sertab Gibi (1996), Lâ'l was sold around 1.5 million times.
Sertab, now only represented in the pop music camp, pushed in a performance with José Carreras , who confirmed her classical singing skills. After her fourth album, Sertab (1999), her most successful to date , she appeared with Ricky Martin and released the single Aşk with the Greek singer Mando .
On May 24, 2003, Sertab won the 48th Eurovision Song Contest in Riga for Turkey with 167 points and achieved recognition throughout Europe. Her winning song Everyway That I Can (Turkish version: Sen üzülme diye ) became a European hit. In Greece , Sweden , Turkey and the Eastern European countries the song was number 1 for weeks, in Belgium , the Netherlands , Austria and Spain the song became a top 10 hit and in Germany and Switzerland it was among the first 20 places on the sales charts . The song managed to climb to number 17 in the Airplay World Official Top 100 and became one of the most commercially successful winners of the Eurovision Song Contest in the 21st century. Encouraged by the international success, Sertab released the English-language album No Boundaries in 2004 , but it flopped.
In 2005 she contributed a cover version of Madonna's Music to the soundtrack for the documentary Crossing The Bridge - The Sound of Istanbul by Fatih Akın . On December 6, 2008, Sertab released her first concert DVD called Otobiyografi Istanbul Konseri to mark her 15th stage anniversary .
