Nilüfer Yumlu (born May 31, 1955 in Cihangir, Istanbul ), known as Nilüfer , is a Turkish pop singer.

She took part on April 22, 1978 with the song Sevince together with the band Nazar at the 23rd Grand Prix Eurovision de la Chanson in Paris and took 18th place together with the Finnish candidate . Since 1997 she has been the national UNICEF ambassador to Turkey.

biography

In 1970, at the age of 15, Nilüfer won the “Altın Plak Ses Yarışması” singing competition organized by the Hafta Sonu newspaper. In December 1972 her first single "Kalbim Bir Pusula / Ağlıyorum Yine" appeared on the label "Odeon Plak". Her second single "Dünya Dönüyor / Neden?" From 1973 was awarded the golden record for more than 50,000 units sold . The next single "Göreceksin Kendini / Aldanırım Sanma" was able to repeat this success and was also awarded gold.

Her first two albums "Nilüfer'74" and "Selam Söyle" received the gold record for 100,000 copies each. In 1975 her first German-language single "Bau 'mir ein Paradies / Anatol" was released, followed by "Pictures in my heart / Why must it be him" from 1976.

Her album "Sen Mühimsin" was released on September 16, 1990 and sold 550,000 units by the end of the year. On December 6th of the same year it was awarded the Golden Cassette by the MÜ-YAP . The 13th album "Yine Yeni Yeniden" was able to surpass this success. With hits like "Şov Yapma", "Haram Geceler" and "Aman", the album, released on April 14, sold 970,000 copies and was one of the best-selling albums of 1992.

Her album "Ne Masal, Ne Rüya", released in 1994, sold more than 600,000 copies in the first year and earned her a nomination for best pop artist at the 1st "Kral TV Video Müzik" Awards. After two and a half years, Nilüfer is back with the hits “Namussuz Akşamlar”, “Çok Uzaklarda” and their 16th album “Nilüfer'le”. The song "Mavilim" won the 4th Kral TV Video Müzik Awards on February 23, 1998 in the "Song of the Year" category. Nilüfer is also named Pop Artist of the Year. In total, the album can sell 753,000 copies and is among the best-selling albums of the year.

With the album "Yeniden Yetmişe", which will be released on June 5, 1998, Nilüfer sings her most successful singles from the 70s anew. The song “Boşver” received a nomination for the best composition at the 5th Kral TV Video Müzik Awards. The album sold over 500,000 units through March 9, 1999.

On April 12, 2006, MÜ-YAP awarded her album "Karar Verdim" the gold record for more than 100,000 units sold. Her current album "12 Düet", which was released on February 3, 2011, sold over 100,000 copies in 2 months and was awarded the gold record on April 14 as the first album of the year. According to "istanbulmusic.com", Nilüfer is one of the most successful artists in Turkey with over 14 million records sold .
