Seyyal Taner (born September 28, 1952 in Şanlıurfa ) is a Turkish singer and actress and the representative of Turkey at the Eurovision Song Contest 1987 in Brussels (Belgium). She has been known as the Tina Turner or Rockoma of Turkish pop music since the 1980s .

Artistic career

Seyyal Taner moved with her family to Istanbul before she went to school . Here she graduated from the American Kız Koleji (de: American Girls' High School ). During her school days she took ballet lessons at the Istanbul State Conservatory . In 1965 she took her first singing lessons from Şerif Yüzbaşıoğlu. This was followed by her first appearances as a singer with the Kanat Gür Orchestra .

During a concert in Istanbul Taner met the then popular Spanish band Los Bravos . At the request of the band, she traveled to Spain in 1968 and took part in a Spanish film musical there . There she also worked in the film Viva cabalga (German title: Pancho Villa rides ). Her cinema career then began in Turkey. She mainly played the role of the scheming beast.

Due to her marriage to the guitarist of the German band "The Vampires", she left the Turkish cinema world for the time being and moved to Germany . After her marriage failed, she returned to Turkey and starred in numerous films. In 1972 she modeled for some British album covers (e.g. English Top Hits , Hammond Hit House ). When the sex film wave reached the Turkish film industry in the mid-1970s, it turned its back on the cinema industry in 1974 and concentrated on music. In 1975 and 1976, however, she still acted in one film each. The Çizmeli kedi (de: Puss in Boots ), shot in 1976, was her last movie.

In 1974 she released her first single with modest success. She performed in night clubs (first alone, later as Trio Seyyal-Seyhan-Sedat ). Her great musical career began in 1976 with the Enrico Macias composition Son Verdim Kalbimin İşine (Original: Je suis content pour toi ). This was followed by other great hits.

It wasn't until 1981 that she released her first album ( Lider ), but after this album she withdrew from the music industry.

In 1986 she returned with the hits Naciye and Leyla , took part in the Turkish preliminary decision for the 1986 Eurovision Song Contest in the same year and finished second in the preliminary decision with Dünya .

In 1987 she again took part in the Turkish preliminary round and this time won with the Olcayto Ahmet Tuğsuz composition Şarkım Sevgi Üstüne (de: My song is about love ). Accompanied by the Lokomotif music group , Seyyal Taner represented Turkey with this song at the 1987 Eurovision Song Contest in Brussels . Although she had convinced the journalists during the rehearsals in Brussels and was henceforth called Tina Türker , her performance was not so well received by the jurors: she came last with 0 points. Thus, next to Çetin Alp, it gave Turkey one of its worst placements in the competition.

In 1989 she returned with the album Nanay . In 1990 she stopped performing in nightclubs and has lived in Bodrum ever since . Two more albums followed. After 1993, she left the music industry for many years.

Today she sporadically releases albums and appears in several television series.
