Arzu Ece

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Arzu Ece (today: Arzu Ece Otyam , * 1963 in Istanbul ) is a Turkish singer . She represented Turkey twice in the Eurovision Song Contest .

Life

Her first participation took place in the 1989 competition in Lausanne as a member of the group Pan with the song Bana bana .

In 1995 she again represented Turkey. This time she competed solo. Ece sang the ballad Sev (Eng. "Love") at the Eurovision Song Contest 1995 in Dublin . She competed with starting number ten and finished 16th with 21 points. In the years 1992 to 1995 the Eurovision Song Contest had lost its popularity with the Turkish public for the first time, so that Ece's appearance in Turkey, as well as that of her two predecessors, was received largely sober. In addition, Turkey had to pause in 1994 and was absent from the competition for the first time since 1979. The first-time participation of several former Eastern Bloc countries in 1993 made a rule change necessary, according to which the countries with the fewest points were excluded from participation in the coming year. Turkey was affected because of the unsuccessful placement of Burak Aydos in 1993. In 1996, however, this rule was changed to the effect that there was a closed pre-selection round in which experts eliminated the "worst" songs. Had the old rule continued, Turkey would have had to pause again after Ece's placement in 1996.

After her participation in Eurovision, Ece brought out another album in the same year (Sebebi yok), which was also not noticed in Turkey.

Arzu Ece was represented twice in the Turkish preliminary decision for the 1995 competition, in which a total of ten songs took part. On the one hand with Sev and on the other hand with a ballad in a duet with the pop singer Fatih Erkoç , which was called Sevda (Eng. "Love").

Zeynep Talu Kurşuncu wrote the text of Sev , while the music was by Melih Kibar, who was the composer of Halley's highest-ranked Turkish contribution to date .

Arzu Ece is now a mother and married to the musician Ali Otyam.
